Dividing Line

The Roanoke Beacon began with the June 21, 1889 issue and the earliest extant issue is June 28, 1889. The Beacon ceased publishing in 1929 (last known issue Feb. 15, 1929). However, it was continued as "The Roanoke Beacon and the Washington County News" that began publishing in August 1929. In 1959 the paper was purchased and its name changed to "The Sun," but it only lasted for a few issues and none are known to exist. In the same year "The Sun" was purchased and its name changed back to "The Roanoke Beacon". "The Washington County News" continued as a separate paper. Both of these papers are current papers of Washington Co.

This microfilm is in reverse negative, very blurry and difficult to read.
