Jun 6, 1774, The Mormon FamilySearch International Genealogical Index (IGI) Film Number 903571 claims that Jacob Davenport was born "ABT 1737" and his father was Richard. The same record claims that Zachariah was born June 6, 1774, with parents Jacob Davenport and Johannah Garrett. The FamilySearch Ancestral File record AFN 11BW-B20 claims that William Davenport was born "ABT 1799" in Whitley County, KY, with parents Zachariah Davenport [AFN 11BW-B0K] and Precilla Spruill [AFN 11BW-B1R]. However, the Ancestral File contains unverified family sheets submitted by private individuals, and may contain errors and conjecture. William was actually born in Kentucky on May 31, 1800 (from his headstone and the Kentucky census), and Zechariah had already married Jean Douglass by that time (from the Washington County, VA marriage records).
Mar 1, 1794, Zachariah Davenport married Precilla Spruill in Tyrrell Co, NC. Bondsman James Freeman, witness Samuel Chesson.
Oct 10, 1799, Zachariah Davenport married Jean Douglass in Washington Co, VA. Married by Wm. Brundige, Baptist Minister.
1800-1860,Zachariah Davenport does not appear in any Washington Co, NC or Tyrrell Co, NC census (or elsewhere in NC, for that matter).
1815,Zachariah Davenport appears as a property owner in the Washington County, NC tax list with 280 acres and an estate valued at $1,200, about twice the typical value for the area and time. Jacob Davenport does not appear in the tax list, opening the possibility that he had died and left property to Zachariah.
1820, Zachariah does not appear in the Washington Co, NC tax list. In roughly the same time frame as the above Zachariah, there was a Zachariah Davenport in the Pendleton District in South Carolina, who moved to Missouri. There is no overlap or confusion in their respective records. He is probably related to James, Francis, and Joseph Davenport who were Revolutionary War soldiers from South Carolina. See these names under Francis, above.
Jun 15, 1787, Ann Davenport witnesses the will (Tyrrell County) of Mary Norman. Will states Mary Norman has a daughter Zeruiah Davenport.
About 1762, Zilpha Davenport married Jacob Elliott (1739-40) in Perquimans County, North Carolina (Crestena J. Oakley, Ed., The North Carolina Ancestor Exchange, North Carolina Genealogical Society, Raleigh, NC, 1999).
1787,Land deed John and Zilpha Davenport to William Chesson. (Tyrrell County DB 10, p. 155)
Apr 1792,Hezekiah Davenport petitioned the estate of Isaac Alexander, stating that his wife Elizabeth Alexander Davenport (who died July 1785) was due a share. Hezekiah Davenport married Elizabeth Alexander in January 1785. She was earlier married to Stephen Davenport. Isaac Alexander's wife Zilpha (was she a Davenport, sister to Elizabeth?) tied to land East of the Scuppernong River (Isaac Davenport, 7/1788).
Jul 13, 1794,will of Zilphah Alexander, wife of Isaac Alexander, states that her daughter Elizabeth Davenport (widow of Stephen Davenport - Ed.) is deceased.
