 This Indenture made this 15th day of December 1856 between William Davenport & Penelope Jarvis of the first part & Joshua B. Davenport of the second, all of the County and State aforesaid. Witnesseth: We the said William Davenport & Penelope Jarvis for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to us in hand paid by Joshua B. Davenport the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sold unto J B Davenport & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto him said Joshua B Davenport his heirs and assigns forever all of our interest in a tract of land containing one hundred & twenty acres situated lying and being in the county aforesaid on the west side of Scuppernong River adjoining the lands of Isaac B Bateman Matthew D ? Owens Henrietta Swain & others this being for all of our interest in the lands whereon our Father & Mother last lived which interest contains forty five acres more or less and all of our interest in two other tracts in the lands of the heirs of Aaron Spruill, that our Father A H Davenport bought of Daniel B Spruill & Joshua B Davis our part of said land contains six acres more or less. Also our interest in one other tract of land lying on the body adjoining the lands of William A Spruill, William Pettigrew & others being the land that our Father A H Davenport bought at the sheriff sale one tract contains four acres more or less to him the said Joshua B Davenport his heirs assigns forever & we the said William Davenport & Penelope Jarvis do for ourselves our heirs & assigns warrant & forever defend the right of the aforesaid bargained premises free & clear from all claims or ourselves our heirs or assigns or the claims of all other persons unto the aforesaid Joshua B Davenport his heirs & assigns forever. In witness whereof we have herewith set our hands & our seals the day & date first above written
