Many records of the War of 1812 are unindexed, unarranged and thus inaccessible to genealogist. A volunteer project, sponsored by the National Genealogical Society is currently indexing them.

In Sep 1997 The Federation of Genealogical Societies voted to begin the microfilming of the War of 1812 Pension and bounty Land Warrant Applications. There are 39,000 boxes of these records and the project is expected to take several years at an estimated cost of $1,750,000.00. They are accepting private donations.
